The Results Of Dairy's First Official Vet Visit, And I Had to Share This

Image
August 16, 2019

Hey y'all, it's me!

Dairy had his first official visit to Dr.Pam, and he did great, even though he was scared, and it took me five minutes to get him out of the car. I just kept talking to him and reassuring him I wasn't going to let him be hurt.

Happy to say he is in great health. He isn't as old as we originally thought. Dr. Pam said he's probably a lot younger than two years old. That would account for all the insane energy and goofiness.

He got his rabies shots, and he will get his other shots next month. He weighs about 50 pounds--and it's ALL muscle. Seriously, ever pet a bowling ball?

He has an appointment to be neutered on the 4th of September.

I was browsing through YouTube just now, and I started watching a few short films--animation, stop motion--that sort of thing.

I came across this little short animated film, and I just fell in love with it. I thought you might enjoy it too, as it makes me think of a certain white pit bull.

Money Saving Adventures For Last Week

August 11, 2019

Hey y'all, it's me!

It's time of the year again, when my church gets ready for our yearly trail ride and auction to raise money for St. Jude's Children's Hospital. I finally got my flyers and forms this morning, and after we had a quick lunch, Obie and I hopped into the truck and headed to the Second Monday Trade Days in search of donations for the auction.

Turns out it was so hot today that few people showed up, so many of the vendors were packing up to go home early. I still got several goodies to auction off. A stun gun, granite cross, plaques and even a gorgeous handmade journal were among the items I had donated. Next month I will show up EARLY on Saturday morning, and I will have a small cart to haul donations around in. I can't wait to see people donate, and how much they bring in for St. Jude.

I have tried several times to upload photos of my money saving for last week, but my internet is having a hissy fit, so I will just have to tell …

All Was Well, The House Was Clean, The Laundry Was Going, And....OH HECK!

August 8, 2019

Hey y'all, it's me.

As the title said, I was just about done with all the day's chores. I had laundry going, just had to finish drying and putting away a few things. Obie and I had leftover dirty rice and salad for supper, and I headed into the laundry room to get some watermelon out of the extra fridge. But when I opened the door...

The floor was flooded.

The drain hose from the washer had slipped out of the drain that goes outside. About an inch of water was EVERYWHERE.

I told Obie to hang on, the watermelon was going to be a little delayed. He wasn't happy, but he understood. I got everything off the floor, then with the big snow shovel, proceeded to scoop water out the back door.

This ain't my first laundry room flood, so I had the drill down pretty good. I took all the towels I could find (including the ones I had just washed and dried), and laid them down to soak up water.

Then I got the watermelon and Obie and I had dessert while I waited for…

Catching Up On Last Week, And Dairy Is Developing A Personality

August 5, 2019

Hey y'all, it's me!

First, thanks to everyone who commented of emailed me with sympathy for losing our beloved Fang last week. It's hard to lose a pet, yet it's just another part of life.

What was crazy, was I found out a few hours later that at the same time I was dealing with the Fang crisis, the Redneck was being driven to the ER by his supervisor. He had cut the tip of his index finger on a machine, and needed stitches. He's fine, and the doctor said today that it's healing perfectly. He gets the stitches out next week. Right now he's at the stage of healing where if he bumps the finger, his stomach just churns, and he loses all interest in anything but cradling his hand to protect that finger. I can't even hold hands with him in the truck because I don't want to accidentally hurt him.

I got a wonderful surprise in my PO Box the day after Fang passed. A viewer sent me a sweet card with $40 cash inside, and the note, "To help…

A Bad Day, Yet Some Good May Have Come From It

Fang and Chloe

I got the call from the vet with the results of the blood work.

It was kidney failure, brought on due to his age.

We discussed options, but in the end I had to make a hard decision in order to spare him any more suffering.

I was able to find someone to take me to sign the papers, and to help me bring Fang home.

I took care of the paperwork, and then I went into a room, where I was able to say goodbye to my 'wooblet'. I told him not to worry, that I knew his sister would take care of Obie. They are both very protective of my son. Then the vet took him and I went outside to wait.

When it was over, they had wrapped him in a special plastic and placed him in a carton. They put him into the bed of the truck, and we brought him home.

Fang was such a gentle animal, and he loved kittens. He even liked Dairy, the pit bull who has been at our house for several weeks. He was never aggressive to Dairy, and even shared his food.

Obie is depressed, and I know t…

When it rains...

July 29, 2019

Hey y'all, it's me.

Along with everything else that has been happening around here, today I had to take our big male dog, Fang, to the vet for an emergency visit. He hasn't been eating right, not been acting right, and today he started pooping without even standing up. We don't know what is going on.

The vet is running blood tests now, and I'm waiting on the results.

Please pray for my dog. Fang is one of the most gentle creatures I have ever met, and he loves kittens. Also pray that whatever is wrong, it isn't something that can affect my other animals.

I'll keep you posted.

A Momentous Anniversary

Image
July 26, 2019

Hey y'all, it's ME!

Oh boy, I am so stoked about today, it is the 44th anniversary of the song that started it all, that began the era of my life that I still remember fondly.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I am talking about the age of DISCO!

And it all started with the release of THE HUSTLE in 1975.

Yes, it was the MACARENA of the 1970s, and it was BETTER than that 'poser'. It has more style. Couples danced together in graceful movements, yet solitary dancers could also enjoy it.

*SIGH*

I really do miss Disco sometimes--even DISCO DUCK had its place, and that is saying something.

\
There was a glitter to the age of Disco that is rarely seen anymore. You showed up to dance, and everyone did.
Of course, there comes a moment when all good things come to an end, and Disco was no different.

When Do You Think I'm Disco" came out, I knew it was merely a matter of time until Disco passed on to that giant mirrored ball in the sky. Oh, it hung on for a ti…

Shout Out To A Fellow YouTuber, A Long Overdue Task Soon To Be Completed, And A New Project For Inspiration

Fang and Chloe enjoy an afternoon snooze.
Hey y'all, it's me.

I have been watching a young woman on YouTube for a while, thought I would give her a little shout out. Her Name is Kate Kaden and her channel is the same as her name.

She's a young single mom, absolutely adorable, and her little boy is what my granny would call, 'way too cute to shoot' (Don't ask--it's one of those old sayings I grew up with).

Kate is a lot like me, in that she loves to talk about saving money, simple living, and she adores her kid. Her videos are well done, and she loves feedback from folks. Scripture says that the older women are to teach the younger, but I often find myself learning new things from several younger 'thrifty sisters', and Kate is definitely one of those. I enjoy finding out new things and new ways to do things.

Recently she did a video where she talked about picking a word for the year. I had heard of this many times, but never really pai…

Frustration Abounds, But I Know God's Got This Handled

July 18, 2019

Hey y'all, it's me!

Well, I have been working on solving the problem of Dairy, the white male pit bull, whom I mentioned in the last post. Bless his goofy, dumber than two rocks heart, I can't find a shelter or rescue to take him in. I have called from one end of Dallas/Ft Worth tot he other, and it's the same thing--they have no room at the inn for him. I would have to foster him, pay for him being fixed, all his shots and any other medical bills, and the group will put him up for adoption, and MAYBE someone will want him, SOMEDAY.

I get it, I really do. I understand about shortages of funds, volunteers and foster homes. I get it. I'm not mad at the shelters. I'm mad at the jerk who apparently dumped him.

The Redneck doesn't want him. Heck, I had no intention of getting another dog now, not until a few more of my mutts pass on to that great dog run in the sky. And I really don't NEED another dog right now, especially one as active as Dai…

Dairy, our latest little 'lost soul'.

Hey y'all, it's me!

I hope you all had a great weekend. Ours was actually kind of slow and mellow, which is a vast difference from most weekends. It was so nice.

Above you can see 'Dairy'. He's a young pit mix who wandered up to our house a couple of weeks ago. I tried to run him off for three days. I kept telling him to go home, but he would simply run and hide in the big 'haul off' pile of stuff that has to go to the dump. After three days, I had to give in and feed him, because I will not let an animal starve. We put ads in the paper and a sign in the stores, but nobody has come forth to claim this sweet little guy. I am now waiting to call a pit bull rescue in Ft. Worth to see if they can take him.

Honestly, he is a sweet dog, even though he is ten kinds of goofy. He gets along with my big male, Fang, and he plays with my females. He loves petting. I just do not need another dog in my life, so…

Results Of My Weekend Retreat

Image
July 9, 2019

Most of the ladies at the retreat. Some couldn't make it until the next morning, but this group was pretty lively on Friday night!

Hey y'all, it's me!

I'm a little late in posting about the Seaside Escape women's retreat I attended this  last weekend It was held at my friend Cyndi's house, and it was AWESOME. I met many new ladies, and we had a great time of praise, fellowship, praying, and worship. I was so relaxed by the time I came home, you could have carried me around in a bucket.

The Redneck dropped Obie off at his father's house around 11 am, and then took me to Cyndi's house. I was honored to meet one of her friends from high school, Connie, who had flown in from Michigan to attend.

L to R: Connie and Cyndi. Aren't they beautiful?

Where's the tape?
The three of us worked to finish preparations and décor for the retreat. We stopped at lunch to snag Cyndi's daughter and we all went to lunch at the local café for stuffed b…

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY, AND HAPPY GUN PRIDE MONTH!

July 4, 2019

Hey y'all, it's me!

I hope everyone has a wonderful, safe 4th of July today. Let's celebrate our history as a nation, and give thanks for the people who had the courage to stand up and say, "We are free."

My day is gonna be wild. I've done the chores, and now the Redneck, Obie and I are sitting around the table enjoying a rare slow morning. Later we're running up to Wichita Falls to pick up the box springs to go with the new Tempurpedic mattress we bought a couple of weeks ago. We will visit a local cigar shop, where the Redneck will pick out a couple of good cigars to enjoy and I will buy some more wooden boxes for storage. We may swing by an entertainment store to see if they have the sixth season of Sons Of Anarchy for me to get (I know, I know, but I LOVE that series). A quick trip to Aldi to snag the week's groceries, then back home to finish out the day. I told you it was gonna be wild!

Obie got himself grounded Sunday night, so fo…

I Have A TEENSY Little Problem...

June 19, 2019

Hey y'all, it's me!

Yesterday was a great day. My friend Barbara came and picked Obie and I up around 8 a.m. and we went to Wichita Falls so I could take care of some important business. We got there and I concluded my business in record time, with FABULOUS results. Then we decided to do a little bit of thrift shopping. After about 10 minutes in Goodwill however, we both felt foolish looing around at stuff to buy when we didn't NEED anything.

So we went to Mardell Christian Book Store and checked out a few things, and got some ideas for a Bible study program down the line. I found a book for a dollar on the bargain shelf that I was really interested in, so I bought it.

We had lunch at a Chinese buffet, then hit Aldi so I could do the grocery shopping for the week. After that we headed home a lot earlier than anticipated, but we realized that to continue driving around would only waste time and gas. We even got back to my house in time for me to see the Redne…

Hey y'all it's me!

I hope everyone is having a great Father's Day. We went to church, where I worked in the kitchen while the service was going on, to get everything ready for 'grub Sunday'. We had a homemade ice cream social/contest, with sandwiches and other finger foods. I brought home some of the leftovers, including a bag of cut up veggies that will go great in a stir fry for Obie and I later this week, and a small frozen turkey left in the kitchen freezer from Thanksgiving. It was still good but taking up space, so I got to bring it home. I'm thawing it in the laundry room fridge, and I will roast it for a family dinner next weekend, and the leftovers will be divided up and frozen for later meals.

I had put a free ad in the local shopper about the dog who showed up over a week ago, but no one has come forward to claim him. So it's looking like he may have been dumped out on our road, and then just found his way to where there were sever…

Book Recommendation--Organizing For A Wonderful Wardrobe by Shannon Upton

Image
June 10, 2019

Hey y'all, it's me!

I just had to let you know about this new e book I found over on Vickie's Kitchen and Garden blog
(http://www.vickieskitchenandgarden.com/). I still haven't figured out how to post s photo from Amazon on my blog, but I took a photo on my phone and figured out how to get it on my laptop so I could show you the cover. THAT'S how much I think you should read this book!

I was perusing Vickie's blog today for the free e books of the day. http://www.vickieskitchenandgarden.com/2019/06/free-kindle-books-and-deals-for-today_10.html

I saw ORGANIZING FOR A WONDERFUL WARDROBE by Shannon Upton. I thought, oh great, here's another book on how to make me feel bad that I don't dress like the fashion ads say I should. I downloaded it for laughs, but after a few pages, I wasn't laughing.

I was taking notes.

Shannon Upton isn't like all the rest of the 'what not to wear' wannabes. Instead, she actually has a Scriptural a…

Hey y'all, it's me!

It's Sunday evening, I just finished doing the dishes, Obie is chilling out listening to Charlie Pride on the CD player, and the Redneck is watching his new copy of the original MAD MAX with Mel Gibson.

Tuesday morning I went out to feed the animals, and in my yard was a short, white pit bull mix male. He is not too old, and has a brown cloth collar on, but no tags. I yelled at him to go home, but he ran into the big pile of old furniture that has to be hauled to the dump.

I spent three days trying to run him off, but no dice. He just runs under the pile and hides. I didn't feed him, refused to make eye contact, anything I could to make him go away.

I put a free ad in the local shopper, hopefully that will get his owner to come find him and take him where he needs to go. However, we are beginning to wonder if he ran away or more likely, he was dumped.

Friday I finally fed him, because as much as I DON'T want another dog, I can'…

Great Big Ol' Honkin' Praise Report

June 8, 2019

God done did it again.

A few weeks ago I requested prayer for a fellow You Tuber, known as Penny Pinchin' Granny. She was having some health problems, and was going in for tests to determine what was wrong.

The tests results came back.

NO CANCER! No internal bleeding! Two itty bitty polyps were removed easily, and she has a small hiatal hernia which can be treated simply.

I wanted to say thank you to those of you who took up the cause to pray for this sweet lady. I know a lot of folks think that the Internet is a huge impersonal realm filled with uncaring people. Yes it can be, I don't deny it, I have seen evidence of that fact for years.

However, when like minded folks slowly come together over time through blogs like mine, Mrs. White's, Amalia's, Rhonda's and more, we tend to develop a bond of caring that can extend beyond homemaking, frugality, and look how neat my child/cat/latest frugal tips are. We reach out and comfort, encourage and rejoice wit…

June 5, 2019

Hey y'all, it's me!

It's been rainy and busy, so I am thrilled that I am even getting to post at all--who cares if it's late?

This morning Obie, Fang and I were leaving to take Fang to his two week checkup to see how he's doing on the low dose of thyroid he's been taking. I got to the side of the drive where it's a little washed out--okay, it's a LOT washed out in places. The front right tire hit a slick spot, and BAM!

I was up to the axle in the mud.

ARRRGH!

So everyone got out, I told the Redneck who was NOT happy (duh). He tried to get it out, but there was no way. After trying to get hold of several folks, he called the lady who owns Brooksies, the local feed store where we buy our horse feed. She got her mom to come babysit the store, and brought her big truck out. A couple of tow straps and a little horse power had our truck out of the ditch. It wasn't damaged, but boy was it muddy.

I love small towns.

So I called the vet, explai…

Money Saving Adventures For Last Week

May 28, 2019

Whew! I am so far behind on posting, I think I just saw myself going in the opposite direction. It has been a busy month, and I have been jumping through hoops to keep up. But I'm doing it.

Had to take Fang, my biggest male dog into the vet. He had been chewing off his fur, whining, coughing, just not being his normal self, for a while. We had dipped him sprayed him, dosed him, changed his diet--you name it, everything we knew to do, but nothing was working. After I took Punky to this vet when she had to be put down, I felt I had finally found a new caregiver for my dogs and cats. We have a wonderful horse vet, but finding a small animal practitioner I trust has been hard.

Well, I took Fang in, and told her what had been going on. After a thorough exam, (and he was so patient during it--I knew he trusted the vet and her tech) she told me that his problems were from a thyroid deficiency. She put him on a low dose of thyroid meds for 30 days to see how he does, and she…
