May I Vent For Just A Moment?

April 6, 2018

Hey y'all, it's me!

This morning while the Redneck slept, Obie and I took the truck and ran a few errands. On the way home, I saw a sign for a garage sale, so we stopped to check it out.

The women had several nice things. I was looking at some clothes, noticing that the prices were a little high for a garage sale, but not too bad. I heard a woman ask one of the women having the sale if she would take a little less than a dollar for a crock pot lid, since she had a crock pot, but needed a new lid for it. I didn't think anything about it, because let's face it--that's how the game is played. Each party tries to get a good deal, and sometimes a bit of haggling goes on.

The woman having the sale replied, in a loud voice, "No, I couldn't POSSIBLY take LESS than a dollar, I mean, it's really WORTH AT LEAST FIVE DOLLARS!" She continued to go on about how valuable the lid was for several minutes.

All I could think was Lady, get a GRIP.

I had no problem with her wanting the price she had on the lid, I mean, it's HER lid, she can sell it for whatever she wants. What bugs me about people like this is how they can't simply say, "No, I'm sorry, I really need to get a dollar" No, they have to make a huge deal out of it, pointing out how much the item would sell for in a store. Here's a news flash...

IT'S NOT IN A STORE--IT'S IN A GARAGE! You probably had it in a box of stuff, forgotten about for at least a year until you decided to have a sale. Now suddenly it's an heirloom worth a king's ransom.

Not only did the woman look like a jerk, she basically bullied the lady who asked the question, and it was easy to see that she also embarrassed her. I quietly told Obie we needed to go, and we left.

I have had folks who attend my sales ask for a reduction in price. I will happily give them one...unless they are snotty. Then I will politely tell them no and no amount of bullying will get me to change my mind.  Then they have a choice, pay the asking price or refuse and walk away. There is no reason for either party to be rude. My motto is, Just because YOU are being a jerk, it doesn't give ME the right to be one.

*SIGH*

I don't now if this post even has a point--I was just peeved. Thanks for letting me vent a little.

Well, I got chores. Later y'all.

  1. I get upset with people that just can't let go. You did the right thing.

    1. Oh yeah, I tend to get 'mouthy' if I don't walk away, which would have been dumb.
